Observing the natural ability of the pink microalgae Dunaliella salina to withstand harsh solar irradiation inspired us to capture its photoprotective mechanisms, allowing us to create this all new anti-glycation and anti-aging skin care. This highly efficient cosmetic active is healthy both for us, and for our planet.

Clinically tested

Tested on solar-challenged population, application of IBR-SolAge™ reduced the accumulation of AGEs in the skin, improved skin elasticity, reduced skin roughness, and decreased the appearance of wrinkles, red spots, and UV spots.

The Incredible Pink Microalgae

The microalgae Dunaliella salina is no stranger to extreme conditions. In fact, it can be found living in both high salinity, intense solar radiation environments, as well as ice-cold Antarctica! Under solar stress, this normally green microalgae adapts by generating large amounts of beta-carotene, which gives it a pinkish color. Interestingly, the algae also accumulates the beta-carotene precursors, the colorless carotenoids phytoene and phytofluene, highly desired by cosmetic formulators as they bring all the benefits of carotenoids without the limiting color!

Mode of action

IBR-Solage™ is a multifunctional active that delivers 3 effective strategies to fight Glyc-Aging™. These include inhibiting the formation of Advanced Glycation End products (AGEs); removing AGEs already formed by degrading glycated proteins; and inhibiting the AGE-mediated signaling cascade.

A Sustainable Choice

We have adopted a circular economy strategy to cultivate the Dunaliella salina. Our growers take advantage of raw materials and by-products such as high-quality salt, heat, and CO2 emissions from nearby salt factories, and use them to keep the algae at optimal conditions.

We chose to integrate with existing salt producers’ facilities to minimize the energy and material use, the impacts on local freshwater availability, and the disposal of saltwater. We benefit from the year-round high solar radiation conditions of the Mediterranean, making it possible to maintain uninterrupted production and preserve high product quality throughout the year.

Supercritical CO2 extraction

We have developed a solvent-free supercritical CO2 (scCO2) protocol
to extract the colorless carotenoids and the unique mix of polyunsaturated fatty acids that can be found in our all new active ingredient. The scCO2 extraction keeps the algae nutrients as close as possible to the way they appear in nature, enhancing their bioavailability and maximizing their efficacy.
